The Royal Gazette of Navassa: Volume X • Issue 1

Her Majesty Queen Marie-Adélina I bids the Kingdom's citizens, peers, and friends abroad to take heart in the work still before us, as the Crown extends its voice, its means, and its friendships. And as she begins her Tenth reign as Sovereign, she continues devoted to stewardship of this small but proud kingdom.

The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day, Monday, the Second of November)
The Royal Chaplaincy, in service of the Navassan Reformed Catholic Church, the established church of the Kingdom, commends to the faithful the coming observance of All Souls’ Day, when the Church sets aside a day to remember those who have gone before us and to commend them to the mercy of God.
On the feast of All Saints we give thanks for those whose holiness is known. On the day that follows, we remember the rest: the parents and grandparents whose names we carry, the elders who kept the old songs, the ancestors whose labour and endurance made a way for us across the seas, and those whose names are known now only to God. No soul is forgotten at God’s table.
In Haiti and across the Caribbean these days are kept with great tenderness, as families gather at the graves of their dead to clean them, to light candles, and to remember with song and flowers. The Chaplaincy honours this custom, which the diaspora has carried to every shore, and commends to the faithful the keeping of a quiet remembrance of their own: a candle lit, a name spoken aloud, a grave visited or a photograph set where it may be seen.
Let us pray. O God, maker of the sea and of the shore, who hast numbered the days of all thy children and forgettest none: grant to thy servants departed the rest of thy peace and the light of thy countenance. Remember those whom we have loved, and those whom no one remembers; gather them into thy harbour, and bring us at last, with all who have gone before, to the safe haven where there is no more parting. Through Our Lady of the Seas, and in the name of thy Son, our Lord. Amen.
The Crown commends this observance to all who keep it, and extends its sympathy to every household that mourns.
